Across industries, and perhaps obviously, the highest salaries are made by those in top leadership positions such as those in the C-suite (CEO, COO, CFO, CTO), Director level and other members of the leadership team such as President, Vice President and Executive Director. These roles at the highest levels within the organisation are complex roles that require a combination of experience, knowledge and abilities to be able to handle the responsibility. Those in CEO or Executive Director roles can make up to HK$ 3,000,000 or higher.
2. Head of Marketing/Digital Marketing Director
Marketing plays a large part in a company’s reputation on the market, its ability to increase market share, and overall reach to potential clients or customers. As such, a Head of Marketing can expect to make up to HK$ 1,200,000. As digital transformation becomes a must, rather than a nice to have, Digital Marketing Directors, with the skills and knowledge to reach new audiences from the digital perspective, can expect to make up to HK$ 2,500,000 in Hong Kong.
3. Head of Ecommerce
The ecommerce industry in Hong Kong is a big growth area, as companies either move retail operations online, or they prioritise ecommerce within what they are already doing. As professionals, those in ecommerce with the required skills sets are in high demand, helping those in the role of Head of Ecommerce bring in a salary of up to HK$ 2,000,000.
4. Omnichannel Director
Related to the Head of Ecommerce listed above, having omnichannel experience is in high demand for companies looking to manage several different sales and marketing channels effectively. Being able to translate and implement strategies effectively across several different channels is what the Omnichannel Director does, and the salary that comes along with that can go as high as HK$ 1,300,000.
5. Internal Audit Director
The Internal Audit Director is a role that requires objectivity, a close eye for details and up-to-date knowledge of regulations and rules. This role requires a high level of specialised experience to ensure good internal control and well-managed corporate governance. Professionals in this position can expect to earn up to HK$ 1,500,000.
6. Group Executive Chef
As the top professional in charge of overseeing kitchen operations in hotels, restaurants and other establishments, this is a high pressure role managing complex logistics. A Group Executive Chef, who would usually be in charge of several separate operations can earn up to HK$ 1,440,000.
7. Head of HR/Talent Acquisition/Compensation and Benefits
The role that Human Resources (HR) plays within the larger business strategy is developing. Previously, an HR role would be largely reactive, however, companies are beginning to see how HR needs to be an active business partner when creating a successful business strategy. For this important role, those in senior roles in HR such as Head of HR, Head of Talent Acquisition, or Head of Compensation and Benefits can expect a high salary of up to HK$ 1,200,000 to 1,500,000.
8. General Counsel
Lawyers are in high demand in Hong Kong, whether with a law firm or moving into an in-house role. While there are advantages to moving in-house, salary is usually one of the downsides, as many take a pay cut in exchange for other benefits. In either case, lawyers with experience are well-compensated, as they can make up to HK$ 3,000,000.
9. Logistics Director, Sourcing Director, Supply Chain Director
Within the procurement and supply chain sectors, having good people in Director-level roles is essential for smooth operations and running of the business. Professionals who make it up to the title of Logistics Director, Sourcing Director and Supply Chain Director can expect salaries between HK$ 1,300,000 and HK$ 1,500,000.
10. Head of Compliance
The Head of Compliance is a key role in ensuring proper compliance to regulations, laws and policies, and as such, can earn up to HK$ 2,500,000. Within the leadership team, the Head of Compliance establishes compliance programs, creates standards to enforce these programs and eliminates possible threats of non-compliance. Along with experience, a professional in this role needs to have up-to-date industry knowledge of changing rules and regulations.
