Our client is a leading insurance-backed asset manager with a strong presence in Hong Kong and Greater China. Managing a diversified platform across fixed income, equities, multi-asset and ETF strategies, the firm is seeking an experienced Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to lead investment strategy, performance, and a team of approximately 50 professionals across investment, research, and trading functions.

Job Description

  • Lead the overall investment strategy, portfolio construction, and investment governance framework across all asset classes.
  • Provide leadership and direction to investment teams covering Fixed Income, Equities, Multi-Asset, ETF, and Trading.
  • Drive investment performance while ensuring alignment with the firm's long-term objectives, risk appetite, and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Chair investment committees and provide investment recommendations to senior management, boards, and key stakeholders.
  • Enhance investment processes, research capabilities, and portfolio management frameworks across the platform.
  • Oversee asset allocation, risk management, and portfolio construction decisions across institutional and insurance-related mandates.
  • Work closely with distribution, product, risk, compliance, and operations teams to support business growth and product innovation.
  • Represent the firm externally with clients, regulators, industry associations, and institutional partners.
  • Identify emerging investment opportunities, market trends, and strategic initiatives to strengthen the firm's competitive positioning.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing investment organization while fostering a collaborative and performance-driven culture.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline. Advanced degree (MBA, Master's, PhD) preferred.
  • CFA, CAIA, FRM, or other relevant professional qualifications highly desirable.
  • Minimum 15+ years of investment management experience, with significant leadership experience within asset management, insurance asset management, sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, or institutional investment platforms.
  • Proven track record managing multi-asset investment platforms across Fixed Income, Equities, and Asset Allocation strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large investment teams and managing senior investment professionals.
  • Strong understanding of insurance asset management, ALM (Asset Liability Management), institutional investing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Deep knowledge of global and Asian financial markets, portfolio construction, and investment risk management.
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage effectively with boards, regulators, clients, and senior executives.
  • Experience operating within a regulated asset management environment.



Preferred Background

  • CIO, Deputy CIO, Head of Investments, Head of Multi-Asset, Head of Fixed Income, or equivalent senior leadership experience.
  • Strong track record managing institutional, insurance, pension, or sovereign assets.
  • Experience across Greater China and international markets.
  • Established external network among institutional investors, insurers, consultants, regulators, and industry participants.
  • Experience leading ETF platforms and multi-asset investment businesses would be highly advantageous.
  • International education and/or overseas work experience is strongly preferred.
  • Fluent English is essential. Proficiency in Mandarin and Cantonese is highly preferred to effectively engage with regional stakeholders and investment teams.
