Vice President - Market Surveillance & Trading Analytics

Hong Kong Permanent View Job Description
Are you an experienced trader looking to leverage your front-office market knowledge beyond traditional trading?
  • Broaden your career beyond traditional P&L-driven trading
  • Work closely with data, technology and regulatory stakeholders

About Our Client

Our client, a regulator, is looking for a senior trading professional to join its Market Surveillance & Monitoring function. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Equities, Derivatives, Electronic/Algorithmic or Quantitative Trader to apply their understanding of trading behaviour, market dynamics and quantitative analysis to identify unusual trading activities and enhance next-generation market surveillance capabilities.

Job Description

What You'll Be Doing

  • Apply your front-office trading and market knowledge to analyse trading activity, market behaviour and unusual trading patterns.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis of large volumes of cash and derivatives trading data to identify trends, anomalies and potential risk indicators.
  • Provide practical trading insights to enhance and calibrate market surveillance scenarios, alerts, thresholds and monitoring parameters.
  • Analyse historical trading behaviour to improve alert accuracy and reduce false positives.
  • Contribute to the development of next-generation surveillance tools using data analytics, automation and emerging technologies.
  • Work closely with surveillance, quantitative, data and technology teams to translate real-world trading behaviour into effective monitoring methodologies.
  • Leverage Python, data visualization and analytical tools to enhance surveillance capabilities.
  • Participate in system enhancements, UAT and broader transformation initiatives.

The Successful Applicant

What We're Looking For

  • Solid experience (at least 15 years experience) as a Trader, Quantitative Trader, Electronic/Algorithmic Trader or Equity/Derivatives Trader, ideally within an investment bank, securities firm, proprietary trading firm or other institutional trading environment.
  • Strong understanding of securities and/or derivatives markets, trading strategies, order behaviour and market dynamics.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical mindset with the ability to identify unusual patterns within trading data.
  • Exposure to algorithmic/electronic trading, market microstructure or quantitative trading strategies would be highly attractive.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, Power BI, Tableau or similar analytical tools is advantageous.
  • Interest in applying trading expertise to market surveillance, analytics, technology and market integrity.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across trading, technology, data and regulatory stakeholders.

What's on Offer

  • This is an opportunity to take your trading expertise in a different direction. Rather than focusing solely on P&L and execution, you will use your understanding of how markets and traders behave to help shape sophisticated, data-driven surveillance capabilities.
  • The position offers strong exposure to market analytics, quantitative techniques, automation, AI and trading technology, making it particularly attractive for experienced traders considering a longer-term move into market infrastructure, trading analytics or market surveillance leadership.
