About Our Client
Our client is a sizable HK listed company with multiple core businesses within the retail industry. They have been expanding vastly within the region with stable businesses, hence with an intention to build up legal structure within the region.
Reporting to the COO, you will take on an independent counsel position looking after all legal matters for Hong Kong operations. Taking on a newly created role, you will look after a variety of legal and commercial matters, including the overseeing of company secretarial work. You will ensure the company is in compliance with all local regulatory guidelines and provide advice to senior management and various business units, also ensuring the company's commercial interest is priority. You will look after a variety of contracts drafting and negotiating, handle annual compliance risk assessment in accordance with the corporate compliance standards and applicable requirements, as well as advise on potential disputes. You will also work closely with a PRC counsel based in China, who looks after all PRC matters for the group, when required.
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will be a senior corporate commercial lawyer with at least 12 years' post-qualification experience, with strong in house work experience. Exposure being in a well rounded role where you have looked after a variety of commercial, corporate, company secretarial and miscellaneous in house matters such as advisory work on disputes, employment, intellectual property. The ideal candidate will be business saavy and commercial, with ability to work with all levels of stakeholders (including some who have been with the company for a very long time), be strong in interpersonal skills and easy to get on with. One who can work closely with senior management and the business is preferred, as is with the ability to factor in the commercial interest of the company rather than purely advising on the law. Strong language skills in English and Chinese is a must.
