Pavel - Geomarket Tax Lead
I joined Schlumberger almost 8 years ago as tax accountant in Moscow finance center. The first 6 month was tough, I thought I will get used to new culture quicker - I have been working with large international companies before, but Schlumberger is quite unique one. My office was full of expats from different places in the world – France, US, Britain, Angola, Mexico, Norway, UAE, China, to name few – but they had few things in common – desire to grow, succeed with the company, to change and improve current processes, loyalty to the company.
In few years time I have been moved to Russia`s Far East – to the small island on the Russia-Japan border to establish new tax/statutory reporting team there. Then I spent 2,5 years in Perth, Australia, looking after treasury aspects of business for 4 countries in Australasia. And currently I`m working in new Finance Center in Kuala Lumpur, as Tax lead for Australasia.
Company provided me with the training, opportunity to travel, meet people from different places in the world; experience different cultures and most importantly gain knowledge and experience. Sometimes it`s tough and work-life balance might not be always perfect, but you know that all your hard work is and will be paid off. I worked for company 8 years, and I can see myself working for Schlumberger till the retirement. Why, will you ask? Because this is the great company to work for and I`m proud to work in the leading oil and gas service provider company.

When I joined Schlumberger 5 years ago, I was looking for multinational experience. And I got that and much more. Schlumberger has not only provided me the opportunity to work with people with people from diverse backgrounds, but it has also taken me to various countries to perform ad hoc work assignment, and for training.
Schlumberger has been the perfect company, providing me with the opportunity to experience different cultures while being able to develop my career as a finance professional.
There is a healthy amount of freedom given to employees to make their own decisions, and of course to also take accountability for it; and this promotes a great sense of satisfaction and achievement. Schlumberger has given me the opportunity to gain international exposure by challenging me to work on a range of special projects and achieve tight deadlines, made possible by lots of support and strong team work from people in different countries.
There is never a dull moment in Schlumberger and during my two years I have been constantly challenged by working with intricate accounts and reports. I really appreciate the emphasis Schlumberger has put on my training and development as I’ve enjoyed learning the latest practices in accounting and in improving my software skills.
