Our client is a global leader in the provision of high-quality financial products and services to customers across 55 countries.
Job Description
Continued expansion in China requires a General Counsel to work closely with the China executive team, supporting their business operations and growth plans in China.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead a team of 3 lawyers and be responsible for all strategic and operational legal & compliance activities in China;
- Provide legal & compliance support to drive all growth activities across all business units, including new product initiatives, portfolio and business development activities and process improvement efforts;
- Work closely with the Regional General Counsel on the company's M&A activities in China; and
- Lead and drive all compliance activities to ensure a strong compliance and ethics culture, including compliance communications & training.
The Successful Applicant
- Qualified lawyer from an internationally recognized university with minimum 10 years experience in an international law firm, top domestic law firm or as in-house legal counsel with an international corporate in China;
- Strong understanding of consumer finance products and the regulatory environment in China would be an advantage;
- Excellent spoken and written English and Chinese (Mandarin) together with strong interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills;
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and develop relationships at various levels within the organisation at both local, regional and global levels; and
- Excellent leadership skills and the ability to lead and motivate your direct team as well as the broader organization on key legal and compliance issues.
