Our client is an iconic media business with three distinct and successful vertical markets - Agency, Direct Client & Media. In each of these markets their brand is the premium and this translates into an ambitious growth program which started in Asia about ten to fifteen years ago.

Job Description

Due to this expansion and now diversification with three separate legal entities, there is now a newly created Chief Operations Officer position.

As COO, this position could also be considered a Group role. Dealing with a lot of Operational tasks as well as being split (roughly) Finance & HR (50%), IT (25%) and Ops (25%). For the last component, this is a very important part of the role as this will deal a lot with procedure & processes as the group grows in volume & complexity.

Due to the nature of the business model, you will be exposed to the Sales & Marketing team and will need to organize these budgets, set targets and be sales driven.

The position's stakeholders would be the FC (reporting into this position), the Chief Technology Officer (both for Asia Pac and also Global) the HRD based in Hong Kong and the Exec Finance VP. In addition, this person will provide information and sometimes guidance to the Board.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate must have at least ten to fifteen years of relevant Finance experience in order to fulfill the Finance & Accounting responsibilities of the role. While the day to day will be taken care of by the FC and Finance team, you must be able to sign off on regulatory or compliance matters.

Your background may include roles similar to the one advertised however after starting your career in a very sophisticated and streamlined business MNC, most recently you are likely to have spent time in an international & SME (perhaps less than 500 people) environment. It is this small company experience which will have taught you the actual Operations behind a business and how it works. You would be able to look at the Business Analysis for the implementation of a new IT system or be able to re-engineer processes within the business.

On a personal level you will be very strong minded but also a very pragmatic person who can overcome resistance to change and drive difficult execution using communication and relationships. You must also be a genuine “people person” who can impart knowledge and coach a team as well as deal with demanding shareholders and the Board.
