The following figures, based on London prices, aim to provide a rough guide to the cost of living in the UK:

- Moderate restaurant meal for two (without drinks) £20
- Top end meal for two (without drinks) £60 upwards
- Pint of beer £3
- Glass of wine £3
- Big Mac meal (large) £3.69
- Soft drink in a pub £2.50
A tip of about 10% is generally expected if you eat out at a restaurant, unless the service is unsatisfactory. Some restaurants include a service charge on the bill, in which case a tip is unnecessary.
